View of Ridge camp 1 and 2 (on the way to summit) |
Brgy. Alas-asin, Mariveles, Bataan
978 MASL (Ridge camp 1); 1,130 MASL (Tarak Ridge peak); 1,185 (El Sako peak)
Specs: Major climb, long sloping trek to Papaya River and a steep assault to the campsite and summit.
Trek time to campsite, day 1: 5-6 hours; Descend, day 2: 3-4 hours.
-->
Notes:
· Strenuous climb, not recommended for first timers
. You will catch a glimpse of Mt. Samat (a famous Bataan mountain with a white cross perched on top) on the bus trip to Mariveles
· Unlike other mountains in Bataan, This mountain has no limatiks (blood leeches)
· Bring a sturdy tent or extra tent pegs (stakes); it's very windy at the ridge campsite
. There's a shaded campsite on one end of the ridge that could fit maybe 6-7 tents, i recommend staying there if you are not confident with the sturdiness of your tent
Options:
. You may choose to set up camp at Papaya river for unlimited water source. Just leave your packs for summit assault. Saves 2 hours trekking time.
· El Sako peak assault is optional. You can take it out of the itinerary and just explore the Tarak ridge summit.
. There's a trail to traverse the mountain all the way to Mt. Mariveles- harder trail, hehe! (I personally haven't tried it)
· You can take a side trip (or overnight) to Kairukan Falls at Sitio Canauan, Morong, Bataan.
Budget: around P700 per pax.
Budget estimate for 5 people:
1180 bus to Mariveles (P236 from Pasay)
1180 bus back to Manila
150 barangay fees
500 food share
500 misc
